Menno Elden Regier, 84, passed away on Tuesday (Feb. 21, 2012) at Newton Medical Center.
Menno was born on April 26, 1927, to Cornelius and Margaret (Epp) Regier in Elbing. Menno attended grade school in Elbing and graduated from Whitewater High School. Following graduation, Menno worked on the family farm and then served two years of voluntary service as an orderly at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City from 1952 to 1954.
It was during voluntary service that Menno met Doris Horst while she was a patient at St. Luke's. Menno and Doris were married on April 1, 1957. Two boys were born into the Regier family, Myron and James. The family made their home in rural Newton.
Menno was a longtime member of Zion Mennonite Church in Elbing.
Menno went to work for Beechcraft for a short time in the late 1950s before going to work at Hesston Corp. He worked at Hesston for 34 years, retiring in 1992 as a quality control inspector. In retirement, Menno continued to farm, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Menno and Doris enjoyed seeing their children and grandchildren become involved in farm life.
Menno is survived by his wife, Doris (Horst) of 54 years; two sons, Myron and wife, Lori (Rempel) and their children, Brad, Amy and Eric, and James and wife, Debra (Gross) and their children, Matt and wife, Lindsey, Katie and Kyle; as well as brothers, Otto Regier and Howard Regier.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Regier.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Mennonite Church in Elbing. Private family burial will be in the Zion Mennonite Cemetery in rural Elbing.
Memorials are suggested to Mennonite Missions Network, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
