He graduated from Nezperce High School and attended the University of Idaho for one year. When the war broke out, unable to volunteer for the armed service, he spent the war years welding ships for the Navy in California. When the war ended he returned to the family farm.
He married H. Bernadine Stellmon Harbke on April 30th, 1946. He retired from farming in 1972 and he and Bernadine moved to Lewiston. They later moved to Green Valley, Arizona, where they stayed until moving back to Lewiston. In 1996 they built a home in Horseshoe Bend. He became interested in gardening and took over the groundskeeping for the Horseshoe Bend Senior Center.
Roy was an active Elk, receiving his 50 year pin; he was also active in the Lions Club while he lived in Nezperce. He enjoyed fishing and playing golf. While they lived in Arizona, summers were spent fishing, and traveling from South Idaho to North Idaho. He and Bernadine were weekly bridge players.
He is survived by his wife, Bernadine; daughters: Lynn (Howard) Maxwell, of Horseshoe Bend, and Karen (Bill) Eimers, Jr., of St. Maries; his grandsons: Jeff and Eric Bickford, of Boise, Navy Commander Karl (Maureen) Eimers, of Charleston, SC; granddaughter, Stephanie, of St. Maries; and three great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Serenity Living in Emmett, Grace Assisted Living in Boise and Grace Memory Care in Meridian for the wonderfully patient and excellent care they provided. The family extends a tremendous thank you to Dr. Elizabeth Olberding, Internal Medicine St. Luke's Meridian, for her clarity and support.
