Seale, Al- Ret. 1SG Dairl K. Broaddus passed away Monday, October 10, 2011 at his residence. A graveside service will be held Friday, October 14, 2011 at 11:00 am EDT at the Fort Benning Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA, with Rev. Roosevelt Oakes officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 13, 2011from 6:00 p.m. EDT until 8:00 p.m. EDT in the Chapel of Vance-Brooks Funeral Home, 4048 Macon Road, Columbus, GA.

Mr. Broaddus was born March 3, 1926 in Madison County, Kentucky to the late Herbert and Bessie Broaddus. Mr. Broaddus was a Baptist and attended the TIC Chapel at Fort Benning.
Mr. Broaddus was a U.S. Army Infantry retiree with twenty-four years of active duty, being a veteran of both World War II and Vietnam. He was involved in campaigns in the Ardennes, the Rhineland, and Central Europe in WW II in the 78th Infantry Division.

He was in three major campaigns in Vietnam in the 1st Airmobile Division. He numbers among his awards and decorations the Combat Infantryman's Badge with one star, the Bronze Star Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the National Defense Medal with oak leaf cluster, the Good Conduct Medal with seven loops, the World War II Victory Medal, the Army Occupation Medal (Germany), the American Defense Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device, the WW II Eame Ribbon with three battle stars, the Air Assault Badge, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry Citation with palm, and three Overseas Service Bars. His last assignment in Vietnam was SGT/Major 2/12 Cav. 1st Airmobile Division.

After his service in the US Army, he was employed for a brief time at Columbus College and then into a security organization for twenty years.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, who raised him, Ed and Mattie Broaddus, eight brothers, and three sisters.

His survivors include his wife of 60 years, Laura E. Broaddus of Seale, AL; two sons, Douglas N. Broaddus of Ft. Payne, AL and Alan K. Broaddus (DeAnn) of Columbus, GA; two daughters Sonja G. Carter of Columbus, GA and Benita C. Finley of Ladonia, AL; 8 grandchildren, Traci Broaddus, Douglas N. Broaddus Jr., Dairl James Broaddus, Cathy DiQuattro (Ron), Ryan North (Josh), Shelby Carter, Laura A. Broaddus, Corey Broaddus; 5 great-grandchildren; one brother, Daniel Broaddus (Wilma) of Lexington, KY; several nieces and nephews to include a special niece Judy Masters of Richmond, KY.
