Dr. George Uhl was a city health commissioner in Los Angeles in 1941 until 1964. I have seen his signature on documents from that time period.

Dr. George M. Uhl, Los Angeles' chief health officer from 1941 until his department merged with the county Health Department in 1964, has died.
Uhl, a 1932 honors graduate of Stanford Medical School, was 84 when he died Sunday in a Glendale hospital.
After graduation, he became health officer of Yolo County, then served as chief of the Bureau of County Health Administration for California from 1936 until joining the Los Angeles department.
During his tenure, the department grew to nearly 800 employees with responsibility for disease control, food inspections and the birth, marriage and death records of the city's 2 million residents.
After the city-county merger, Uhl became supervising surgeon at the old Georgia Street Receiving Hospital, retiring about 1967, said his son, William.
He is also survived by another son, James; a daughter, Karol Drylie; a sister, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
