Surveyor and Draftsman for the City and County of Los Angeles, California. The son of Francisco and Rosa (Casanova) Solano, who came to Los Angeles in the late 1840s, his family owned the property known as Solano Canyon next to Chavez Ravine, near Dodger Stadium and downtown Los Angeles. He trained as a civil engineer and worked as a land surveyor with George Hansen in the early 1880s. Commissioned as a Captain in the California National Guard in 1896, he worked both privately and as a government employee. With the Beach Land Company, he assisted in the development of Playa Del Rey in 1902, and he is credited with preserving Exposition Park in Los Angeles for public use. Many of his original maps and field notes are now preserved at the Huntington Library in San Marino.
