LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. -- Former Walla Walla Anna Hoffmann Retzer, 102, died here April 2, 1988. The service was held April 6, 1988, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, Calif. Mrs., Retzer was born Jan. 24, 1886, at Eureka Flats on land settled by her parents, Theressa and John Hoffmann, longtime residents and farmers in the Walla Walla area. Her young life was spent on the Hoffmann ranch at Eureka and the family's home in town. In 1907 she married George H. Retzer in Walla Walla. They were the second couple to be married in the newly built St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Catherine Street. They lived in Walla Walla until moving to Southern California in 1944. They built their own home in South Laguna, where they had resided since. Her husband died in 1962. Mrs. Retzer was a member of Chapter No. 25, Order of the Eastern Star, Lady Elks and the Lioness Club while in Walla Walla. Survivors include a daughter, Shirley V. Retzer, at home; a sister, Corleen Shafer, and a brother, Philip Hoffmann, both of Walla Walla; and many nieces and nephews.
