Mrs. Mary Jane Nutting Stuart was born to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Nutting on the 13th day of November, 1853, and departed this life on November 13, 1936.
She was united in marriage to Mr. Everett Stuart on the 13th day of November, 1885, and to this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Roy Clinard of Bangor.
Mrs. Stuart came from the East with her father and her sister when she was twelve years old. Her sister and herself were the home makers on a pioneer farm in Hawley neighborhood. They not only cared for the home duties but also assisted in the clearing of the homestead.
Mrs. Stuart spent all of her life in the Hawley neighborhood, except her first twelve years and her last seven years. She was an active member of the Hawley Methodist church, and took a lively interest in all that was intended to further the growth of a more commendable neighborhood.
Her last illness was indeed a sore trial to herself, and a very genuine care to her daughter's family. These past several years have furnished this community a laudable example of Christian patience and deeply rooted family loyalty. The passing of sister Stuart followed more than a year of complete collapse, with both mind and body totally inadequate.
She leaves to mourn their loss, her daughter, a step-daughter, Mrs. Louise Pinyard, of Hawley, two grandchildren, and nine step-grandchildren, and a host of friends.
Her last rites were observed on Sunday afternoon, November 15, at the Sherrod chapel, with Rev. Scott D. MacDonald officiating. Interment was made at the Thomas cemetery in west Bangor.
CARD OF THANKS
We desire to express our genuine gratitude to everyone who was thoughtful and helpful during Mrs. Mary Jane Stuart's long illness, and during these past few days when we were observing her last rites. We take this opportunity to thank the Toquin community for flowers, Miss Paquin and Mrs. Freestone for the music and Rev. MacDonald for his comforting words.
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Clinard and daughters.
