John Eckenroth 3 is the son of Henry Eckenroth 2 and Anna Barbara born Kuhn. He was born in Lynn Township PA.

John was born August 4th 1768 and baptized 18th of September 1768 (GR, page 35; "Records", Volume 3, page 312). He was baptized in Philip Schmitt's house near Emmaus in Macungie Township, Northampton County, PA.

John and Anna Mary had ten Children. Five, 3 boys and 2 girls, were born by 1800; three more, two boys and one girl, by 1810; two more. one boy and one girl by 1820. (WK-book, pages 82 Research work Chart)

John and Anna's children were:

1.Henry born April 1793 married Elizabeth Forman on 9th November 1818 (CR 1980 page M-15). They had eleven children and by April of 1835 they moved to Tyrome Township/ Gettysburg, where they had three more children. Elizabeth died on or after 1840, and around 1847, Henry had remarried to Catharine born in 1811 (Maiden name not found). Henry had at least one child by Catharine in 1848. Both were living in Tyrone Township, Adams County in 1850. Henry had at least 16 children by his two marriages: Mary Ann, 1819; Susan, 16th Dec. and Joanna Catharine, 2nd April 1825; Margaret, 10th Nov. 1826; James, 30th Oct. 1827; Peter Aloysius, 3rd April 1831; Daniel, 24th Jan. 1831; George, 23rd Dec. 1832, Julianna Carolina, in 1835; Henry (again) in 1837; Joseph in 1838; Matilda in 1840; and Samuel in 1848.
Henry died 30th January in 1852 and is buried in the Gettysburg, PA. (WK-book, page 83)

2.Mary (Polly) brn.1794-1800 (1820 and 1830 Census)she married Henry Wever (Weaver) and had at least one child -John Alexander, baptized 10th Feb. 1833 (CR, 1980, page 233; Original Book I, page 326). (WK-book, page 83)

3.Catherine (Kitty) brn.around 1798 married possibly Jacob Chambers 6th Nov. 1832 (Conewago Register 1980, page M-9) In this case she was born about 1798. In the 1850 Census Catharine Chambers, age 52, widowed and living with probable brother John age 49 in Mt. Pleasant Township. Nothing further known about her children. (WK-book, page 83)

4.John Jr. brn. about 1798 married 9th April 1826 Elizabeth Hemler (CR, 1942, page 15). Executor for will and estate of his uncle Henry(3). In 1850 he was living in Mt. Pleasant Township with Elizabeth age 47 and children: 1.Joseph A brn. 1829; 2.Mary Ann brn. 1832 who married Jacob Smith in 1850 (History Cumberland & Adams County, page 503); 3. John brn. 1834; 4. Henry brn. 1838; 5. Agnes brn. 1840; and John's sister Catharine (Eckenrode) Chambers age 52. John(4) died on 21st May 1877 aged 74 years, 3 months, 19 days and Elizabeth died 17th April 1871 aged 68 years, 1 month, 5 days. Both are buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant Township, Adams County. (WK-book, page 83)

5.Francis Xavier brn. 1800 baptized 3rd Nov. 1800, sponsors: F.X. Brosius and Mar. Marshall. ("Conewago", John T. Reily, Herald Print, Martinsburg, W. Virginia, 1885, page 191, quoting Conewago Registers.) Based on 1820 Census he was married by 1820 but died leaving a widow of Francis" in 1820. (WK-book, page 83 and 112)

6.George brn. May 11th 1803,baptized on 17th of July 1803, sponsors -Henry and Catherine Eckenrod (CR, 1942, page 74) George Ekenroth and John Faller were witnesses on 9th April 1826 at the Marriage of John and Elizabeth (Hemler) Ekenroad. (Marriage Records 1796-1883 of Conewago Chapel, John Timon Reily Historical Society, 1980, McSherrytown, PA. 17344) George Eckenrode(4)married Mary Kelly on May 17th 1831; Mary was the daughter of Patrick and Catharine (Kemp) Kelly at Conewago Chapel before witnesses: Aloysius Eckenrode (his Brother) and Elizabeth Brinkenroff (CR, 1980, page M-15). In the Woodstock Archives there is a record listing George Eckenroh for "Pew number 1, Front Gallery" in Conewago Chapel for the year 1827. ("Catholic Colonial Conewago", J.P. Keffer, page 184). In 1850 George(4) was living with his family in Mt. Pleasant Township, Adams County, PA. By the 15th of August in 1854, they had moved to Frederick County, Maryland, where they are both buried in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Southwest of Emmitsburg, Maryland. George died the 14th of April 1882 at the age of 77 years, 10 months, 22 days (born 22nd May 1804-Obviously erroneous) and Mary died 6th June 1893 aged 81 years, 4 months, 5 days (born 31st Jan. 1812 which is correct) ("Names in Stone", Jacob Holdcraft, 1966, Ann Arbor, Michigan, page 364). Mary (Kelly)Ekenrode brn 31st of Jan. 1812 of Patrick and Catharine (Kemp) Kelly ( Married 4th June 1811) was baptized 6th Feb. 1812 with sponsors: Francis and Margareta Marshal (CR, 1980 page 88; Original book I, page 114; CR 1980, page D-17). The following eleven children have been identified from the 1850 census, and collated with cemetery data and the Conewago Registers: Elias Alexander 5, 13th March 1832; John F. 5, 1833; Ephraim G. 5,1835; Maria Isabelle 5, 3rd April 1838; Emmanuel James 5, 13th June 1839; Francine Caroline 5, 7th December 1840; Henry Ignatius 5, 7th march 1844 died 3rd September 1918 (his wife Margaret A. 1849-1924); Mary L. 5, 1st March 1846; Vincent Joseph 5, 14th May 1848 died 21st Oct. 1931 (his wife Emma J. 7 Aug. 1855; -28th April 1931); Pius William 5, 1st March 1851 died 21st of January 1855; Susan R. 5, 22nd July 1854 died 15th Aug. 1854 (1850 Census; "Names in Stone"; CR, 1980, pages 43, 44, 45; Original Book I, pages 323; Book 2, pages 27, 31, 39, 57, 110, 142). Elias Alexander 5 married Margaret A. in Maryland and had at least five children -among them Right Reverend Monsignor John H. Eckenrode. Vincent Joseph 5 married in Maryland Emma J. 7.Aloysius brn. March 28th 1807, baptized the 3rd of May 1807, sponsors: Michael and Margaret Marshall (CR, 1942, page 90). HE married 2nd Oct. 1832 Mary Anna (Nancy) Meyers (CR, 1942, page 17; DAR Membership Application 630301-561; "Collections", J.T. Reily, Volume 6, page 81) born 10th January 1810 daughter of Frederick Myers and Christina Diller. They lived in Berwick Township in 1850, died in Mt. Pleasant Township on 28th December 1883 (Aloysius) and 29th July 1883 (Anna), buried at Vonneauville. (The following data on Aloysius's children was obtained by a collation of the 1850 & 1860 Census; Personal research of Willard Rindlaub, and Carolyn Louise Cunningham Sanders of PA and work sheets of John Poist Keffer dated 1969 filed wwith LDS Genealogical Library, Salt Lake City, Utah; Plus information provided by William Kirkpatrick of TX. In the 1850, Aloysius and Anna were living in Adams County with the following ten children: a)Hamilton John, brn. 12th January 1834, died 8th of December 1890 in Fredericksburg, Virginia, he married Mary Elizabeth Myer in 1870 and had at least two children. b) Emily Mary Jane (In Latin Emiliana Jacobea), born 11th May 1835, died 20th April 1924, married 28th January 1861 to John Andrew Christian Rindlaub Jr.brn. January 1834, died 26th August 1889 and had seven children, three of whom had descendants. c)Elias, born 15th November 1836, married and had 7 or 8 children , some of whom lived near St. Joseph's College, Emmitsburg, Maryland. d) James Adam, brn. 3rd of March 1839. e)Francis Henry, born 15th November 1840, died 16-24 February 1912, married 11th October 1864 to Catherine A. Topper brn. 30th November 1832, died 31st of October 1911 at York, PA. f) Doctor David R., born 28th of January or 29th of November 1842, died 29th of May 1871. g) Twin sister Florence, born 28th January 1842 or 29th November 1842 who married first T.O. Kinzer, second__?Gulden. h) Charles Edward, born 184, married and had at least six children. Two settled in Warren, Ohio, one in Pittsburg, PA., one in Harrisburg, PA. and one in West Chester, PA. i) William M., born 6th December 1849, married 5th June 1882 Catharine Elizabeth Klunk, daughter of Jacob and Eliza (Gulden) Klunk. They had six children. j) John Washington (1860 Census), born 1852, married in 1883 Anna H. Boyd. They had at least three children. (WK-book, pages 84-85, 112)

8.Elizabeth brn. 1809 baptized 24th Dec. 1809; sponsors;Henry and Catharine Ekenrod.(CR, 1942, page 106). No known other information unless she is the wife of Abraham McSherry married 7th Sept. 1830 (CR, 1980, page M-45). (WK-Book, page 85 and 112)

9.Joseph brn. 17th January 1813, baptized 24th February 1813; sponsors: Joseph Klug and Maria Klug. (CR, 1942, page 121). Married in early 1847 Rebecca Wise (Weiss) brn. 1826 in Maryland, Daughter of John and Susan Wise. They had seven children, the last for of whom were born in Carroll County, Maryland -Francis Alexander 5 on30th Oct. 1846; John Edmund 5 on 29th January 1848; Edward joseph 5 on 28th January 1856; Mary S. 5 in 1858; and Emma R. 5 in 1860. Joseph Eckenrode 4 died 18th September 1868 and his wife, Rebecca, died 2nd November 1898. Both are buried at Westminster, Carroll County, Maryland. 10.Margaret brn. on 22nd March 1814, baptized 24th July 1814; spsors: Christian and Catherina Kheen. (CR, 1942, page 129). Margaret died unmarried on on 3rd May 1829. No other information is known about her. (WK-Book, page 85)
