DERBY ­- Sarah Edith Palmer, 87, longtime Russell resident, died Monday, July 5, 1999, at Westview Manor, Derby. She was born March 13, 1912, in Russell to Clarence and Roxanna (Holl) Newcomer. She was a lifetime Russell resident, moving to Derby in 1992. She was a homemaker and elementary school teacher in the Russell school system until retiring in 1977 after 42 years. She taught first grade at Bickerdyke Elementary School. She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, United Methodist Women, NEA and K-NEA, all of Russell, and the Retired Teacher´s Association. She was married to Hadley Palmer.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Hoglund, Wichita; a brother, Loyd Newcomer, Boulder, Colo.; and two grandchildren.

Services at Otterbein United Methodist Church, Russell, with the Rev. Earl Haggard officiating; burial in the Russell City Cemetery.
