Cindy Cooper Churning lost her hard battle with cancer on Jan. 25, 2012. Cindy was born on June 14, 1958 to Carl and Bessie (Malony) Cooper in Iola, Kan.
Her family moved to Colorado, where Cindy spent most of her childhood and early teenage years. She attended Dolores schools until after her sophomore year. In 1974 her family moved back to the Iola area where Cindy had a variety of jobs. Anything from cleaning rooms, working at Dairy Queen, several factory jobs, nursing homes and she also worked as an electrician’s assistant. Cindy married Karl Churning in 1980. Her pride and joy were her two children, Josh Churning and Desi Churning.
Cindy always loved Colorado. She missed the mountains and vowed that she would return someday. Almost 10 years ago her dream was realized as she was finally able to come “home.” Cindy loved the outdoors, going to the mountains, lakes and having family picnics. She loved watching the wildlife and birds. She also had a great appreciation for music and enjoyed dancing.
Cindy made many good friends from working at the front counter at Slavens for almost seven years, as well as Halls Furniture Store for the last few years. She loved life and loved to live it.
Preceding Cindy in death were her parents, Carl Cooper and Bessie Malony Cooper.
Cindy is survived by her brother, Jerry Cooper of Watertown, S.D.; son, Josh Churning of Cortez; daughter, Desi Churning of Cortez; two grandchildren, Kamryn Churning and Logan Churning, both of Cortez; aunt and uncle, Thelma and Darrow Peck of Dolores; close friend, Jim Logan of Cortez; and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cindy requested that there be no services. She also requested that her body be donated to science care in hopes that someday they can find a way to cure cancer. We, her family, request that for those who knew her, that you remember her smile and laughter and pass it on to others.
