Eleanora Estelle Becker the daughter of Jacob and Amalia (Strecker) Becker, was born March 3, 1908, in Russell County, near Milberger. Her death occurred July 10, 1987, at Russell City Hospital, after several months of failing health. Her age was 79 years, 4 months, and 7 days.

Eleanora lived all her life in the Russell County area, was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Milberger, graduated from Russell High School with the class of 1927, then attended Ft. Hays College, where she received a lifetime teaching certificate. Except for a short time while she attended the University of Michigan where she was awarded her Master of Arts degree, she spent her entire working life in the teaching profession. For 42 years she taught school in the Russell area, a short time in Barton County, and the balance in the Russell School System, retiring in 1970.

She was a devoted teacher, enjoyed her students, and maintained a close relationship with her students after they left her classrooms. Her spare time was occupied with her leisure time activities, sewing and quilt making. She enjoyed traveling, had an impressive music library, and spent a great deal of time reading, with poetry being a favorite.

Eleanora was a member of Trinity United Methodist church, the Hope Circle, and United Methodist Women, National Education Association, Russell County Retired Teachers Association, Business and Professional Women, Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.

Those who preceded her in death were her parents; one brother, Emanuel Becker, and five sisters: Leah Himes, Pauline Margheim, Lydia Miller, Amelia Borell, and Ernestine Keil, and a nephew, Marvin Becker. Survivors are two sisters, Laura Stoppel of Los Alamitos, CA; and Georgina Borell of Dighton, KS. She is also survived by a number of other relatives, including LaVern Becker of Milberger and Elaine (Becker) Earlywine of Rolling Prairie, IN; and a host of friends.
