Edwin Bangert, son of Geroge J. and Mollie (Hettinger) Bangert, was born August 19, 1910 in Russell County, Kansas. His death occurred April 28, 1994 in the Russell Regional Hospital at the age of 83 years, 8 months, and 9 days. Edwin lived his early life on the family farm south-west of Russell, he received his basic education in the local schools and for several years worked the family farm as well as being a pumper in the oil fields. On November 21, 1937 Edwin was united in marriage to Alvina Steinert at the Bender Hill Lutheran Church. During World War II he served in the US Army from January 1943 to November 1945, with overseas service in the European Theater where he received three battle stars. After returning to the Russell community he began working for Mahoney Implement, first as a mechanic for a short time and later as Parts Manager and Salesman, working for 171/2 years before he retired. He later was employed by School District USD 407 in yard maintenance for 5 years. On August 2, 1956 Edwin and Alvina were privileged to adopt Patricia Ann (Patty) from the Lutheran Home at Winfield, Kansas. Patty has been a very important part of their family from that time on. Edwin was baptized in the Methodist Church near the family home and later as a small boy joined the Trinity Bender Hill Lutheran church where he was later confirmed. After he and Alvina moved to Russell in 1948 they became members of St. John Lutheran Church at Russell.

Those preceding him in death are his parents, three brothers; Bill, Rueben and Manuel Bangert, a sister Lydia Vaughn and two half-sisters; Ohrla Wingert and Mary Faxon. Survivors are his wife Alvina of the home in Russell, his daughter Patricia Ann Uhrich of Hyannis, Nebraska, one brother John Banger of Russell, 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
