Vida is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alfred Delton Kelly; sisters, Faye Hart and Opal Kelly; brothers, Lank Lunsford and Wendell Lunsford; and grandson, Robert Wayne Kelly. She is dearly missed by her sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Al Stem of Spring, Texas; her brother Billy and wife, Leona of Navasota, Texas; her daughter, Dorothy Lockwood of Huntsville, Texas; her son, Kenneth Wayne Kelly and wife, Mary of Buna, Texas; grandchildren, Sherry Henke and husband, Matthew of Huntsville, Texas; grandson, Kenneth Kelly and wife, Terri of Porter, Texas; grandson, Ricky Kelly and wife, Kim of Buna, Texas; great-grandchildren, Chelsea Tate-Erdmann of The Woodlands, Texas; Treasure Kelly-Hollender of Jacksonville, Florida; Zachary Tate of Huntsville, Texas; Alexis Kelly of Porter, Texas; Christian Kelly and Taylor Kelly of Buna, Texas; Katherine Henke and Sarah Henke of Huntsville, Texas; great-great-grandson, Gavin Erdmann of The Woodlands, Texas and countless nieces and nephews.
Vida will be remembered as a kind, soft-spoken lady with a quiet and stubborn strength. Her family never recalls a harsh word spoken from her lips, and as grandchildren came into her life, the whole neighborhood joined in calling this small-statured woman "Bigmama." She primarily kept house for her family, but she did spend time working outside the home as a seamstress in the alteration department at JC Penney in Pasadena, Texas. She was accomplished at quilting, crocheting, and sewing. She was eager to share this art with her siblings and her grandchildren. At age ninety, she was still altering pants for her granddaughter. She will be remembered for her style and grace and all-around class.
Many hold fond memories of her as a caregiver to children. It was truly the care of those around her, young and old, that acted a catalyst for her longevity. Her daughter, Dorothy, was rarely seen without Vida by her side, as they were not only mother and daughter but the best of friends.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Huntsville, Texas at 1:00 p.m. on February 25, 2012 followed by memory sharing at Magnolia Lake from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
