Mrs. Effie Atherton Williams, 69, wife of James R. Williams, of Norfolk, died at 2:40 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 1964 in Norfolk General Hospital, after an extended illness.
A daughter of the late Moses and Georgia C. Atherton, formerly of Hudgins, she is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Ora Amory of Gloucester.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Holloman-Brown Funeral Home, Norfolk, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Alexander, pastor of Central Baptist Church and the Rev. P. Roland Wagner. The Rev. J. W. Simmons officiated at the graveside service held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Mathews Baptist Church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Feliz Arnold, Reginald Williams, Harry Hanbury, Gilbert Bailey, Robert Osborne and Coles Diggs.
