* It has been said that Aunt Florence's beauty may have been a contributing factor that lead to her untimely death.
* Evangeline's mother was Louise Cowdry Villa Cordero, and her father was John Cordero. (John Cordero is listed in the 1894 Los Angeles Directory as living at 109 N. Los Angeles Street in the city of Los Angeles, CA. He is is listed as a "Buggy Washer" by profession).
* Evangeline (Florence) Cordero was my Grandmother, Susie Villa Albers' younger sister. My Grandmother loved her sister dearly but was always needing to bail her out of some trouble. Grandmother was there when Evangeline was born and served as the Mid-Wife. She also delivered both of Evangeline's daughters.
* Evangeline received lots of attention from the men, as she was a very attractive young lady.
* She was first married to a Mr. Watts (I don't have his first name) and they had 1 daughter, Mildred Watts (Taylor). A few years later, she was married a second time to a Mr. John Barnard, who was well loved by my family. Together they had 1 daughter and named her Patsy. Until the day Mildred passed away she searched for her younger sister, Patsy, but never found a trace.
* At one point, in the late 1930's, Evangeline was stabbed, in a cantina, in Tijuana, Baja CA, Mexico. She almost died, then, from lack of good health care and a broken heart. She and John had split up and she took to the wild side of life. Infection set in, and if it hadn't been for my Grandmother, Susie, and my Great Uncle, Gaspar O. Tarango, she would have surely passed away in hiding, but a man named Heraclio Ochoa (Della Ochoa Verges' ex-husband) lived in Tijuana and he tipped my Great Uncle Gaspar off, and said he would lead them to where she was hiding. He said "I don't dare tell you where she is because if she gets word that you're coming, she'll run and hide somewhere else". My Grandmother and Great Uncle brought Aunt Florence back to Los Angeles, where she finished her days out in a Tuberculosis Sanitarium.
I pray that Aunt Florence is Resting in God's Holy Peace after leading a far too tragic life.
Love to you Aunt Florence,
Big Mike
