Lura Nellie Crosby Waters, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, in Crestview Acres in Marion, Iowa, following a long illness. Pastor Bill Randles of Believers in Grace Fellowship will conduct a memorial service Monday, April 10, 2000, at 1:30 p.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion. There will be a visitation at the funeral home Sunday, April 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. The body has been cremated and a family burial service at the Coggon, Iowas, Cemetery will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Waters is survived by two daughters, Florence M. Waters Denbow and husband E. Ray Denbow of Cedar Rapids and Margaret L. Waters Parmer and husband Thomas E. Parmer of Wyoming, Iowa. Also surviving are her beloved five grandsons, Michael R. Denbow and his wife Jennifer of near Prairieburg, Iowa, and their children Jessie, Aslan and Grace; David A. Denbow and wife Nancy of Arvada, Colorado, and their children Riff and Bree; Thomas J. (TJ) Parmer and Daniel E. Parmer, both of Wyoming, Iowa; and Douglas C. Parmer and wife Donna of Cedar Rapids, and their children Suzanne and Daniel. She is also survived by a sister, Catherine B. Nightingale of Beloit, Wisconsin; a sister-in-law, Mae V. Crosby of Marion; a brother-in-law, Thomas C. Waters of Coggon; as well as many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding her in death were here husband of 50 years, Chester C. Waters, who died May 24, 1984; her parents; three brothers, W. Roy, Robert C. and Edward H. Crosby; and two sisters, Mary Jean Crosby Siebels and Margaret E. Crosby.
Lura Nellie Crosby was born July 15, 1913, in Prairieburg, Iowa, the daughter of William and Jennis F. Conklin Crosby. A descendant of the ares's earliest settlers, she grew up in the Prairieburg area and graduated from Coggon High School. On January 11, 1934, in Chicago, she married Chester Clyde Waters, originally of Paris, Iowa. They made their home for several years in the Chicago area, returning to Iowa because of World War II.
Mrs. Waters made many friends during her years employed by Mays Drug Stores, Montgomery Ward, Me Too and Hy-Vee. In 1968, Mr. and Mrs. Waters retired to Naples, Florida, where she resided until returning to the Cedar Rapids/Marion area in 1993. She was a past member of the Business and Professional Woman's Organization and the Los Alamos, New Mexico Chapter of the Daughters of the American revolution.
The long Good-buy of Alzheimer's-related disease is at last quieted.
