It was while working at the ranch that he met his wife Refugio. In later life, he employed himself as a handyman and lawn keeper.
He raised chickens in his backyard and had a small grove of fig trees among which his grandchildren would run about. Personally, I enjoyed helping him pick the fruit and eating figs fresh off the trees while we walked about together.
