He was born in Whigville (also known as Gibonsville). Whigville is situated one and one half miles NE of Grand Blanc. It undoubtedly would have become a flourishing village, but the Flint and Pere Marquette Railroad surveyed its road through Grand Blanc, which was an inducement for many of the earlier residents to remove to that village. Gibsonnville had a few stores and a population of about 100.

His brother Charles was born Nov 10, 1869, so William couldn't have been born in 1869. I saw Charles records at the Grand Blanc court house. The 1870 census lists William age as 4, (The age has been transcribed as 7, but if you look all children are in birth order except William. I believe the 7 was a 4.), so he would have been born in 1866. And the 1880 census listed as 14 would have him born in 1866. His parents should have known the birth dates for their children. In the 1910 census William is 40 and wife 24, 1920 census William is 50 and wife is 34, 1930 census William is 56 and wife is 44 and 1940 census William is 69 and wife is 54. Death record at the Saginaw County Court House place his birth as June 14, 1869, retirement record July 14, 1869, Saginaw News obituary June 14, 1869, and marriage record 1870. I wasn't able to find his birth record in Grand Blanc, MI. I had a volunteer check the records in Grand Blanc and William was not found. So, even though the headstone has listed 1869, I am putting in the year that I believe he was born in and that was 1866.
