OBITUARY :
DOROTHY KATHLEEN MCCUSKER WIGFIELD, 89, of 15526 National Pike, Hagerstown, Maryland, died on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at her home.

Born September 17, 1916 in Little Orleans, Allegany County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Cecilia Ashkettle McCusker.

She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, Homer Leo Wigfield on June 1, 1990.

She was also preceded in death by brothers, Bernard McCusker, Jimmy McCusker, Donald McCusker, Lewis McCusker; and sisters, Venona Rosalie (Nonie) Hofe, Eleanor George, and Sarah McCusker.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorinda Stanley, wife of Ronald Stanley, of Hancock, Maryland, and Jane Ambrose, wife of Charles Ambrose, of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia; four sons, Gary W. Wigfield, husband to Linda Wigfield, of Clear Spring, Maryland, Richard Wigfield, husband to Sharon Wigfield, of Hagerstown, Lowell Wigfield, husband to Terri Wigfield, of Hagerstown, and Dean R. Wigfield, husband to Lynne Wigfield, of Hancock, Maryland; thirteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church for over sixty years.

Dorothy was a homemaker who had an amazing green thumb. Her flower gardens were always a rainbow of color. Her vegetable garden helped feed her family year round. She was able to garden this past summer, an activity that kept her active and fit even at the age of 89.

Dorothy was the granddaughter of a lock keeper for the C & O Canal Company, and her father helped build the Indigo Tunnel of the Western Maryland Railroad. She spoke fondly of her youth in the Little Orleans area, especially fishing along the banks of the Potomac River.

Dorothy was very strong in her faith, which was always first in her life. Her family was her greatest accomplishment. She remained humble in her life, not taking credit for her accomplishments whether it was faith, family, or flowers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday at 9:30 a. m. Rev. George A. Limmer will be celebrant.

Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
