Mr. George Keillor, engineering manager of Greenock Corporation Gas Department, died in the Royal Infirmary, Glasgow, on Saturday night as the result of injuries sustained in an accident in Glasgow Central Station late on Friday evening. He has been on a visit to Edinburgh and he was boarding the last train at Glasgow for Greenock when he slipped and fell between the train and the platform.
Mr. Keillor was an outstanding figure in the gas industry in Scotland. He was recognized as an authority on gas engineering and on numerous occasions he acted in arbitrtion cases. His wide experience and known abilities as both an engineer and an administrator also caused his services to be called upon frequently in an advisory capacity to other local authorities. Under his guidance the Greenock Gas Department was particularly well managed.
Mr. Keillor served for a term as president of the Scottish section of the Gas Engineers Association. A native of Broughty Ferry, he was assistant gas manager in Dundee when he was appointed manager at Greenock in 1917. The Greenock undertaking celebrated its centenary four years ago, and on that occasion tributes were paid to the valuable services Mr. Keillor has given to the Corporation.
A keen golfer, Mr. Keillor was an ex-captain of the Greenock Golf Club. He is survived by his wife and three sons and one daughter.
