In 1900 he and his parents and four siblings lived on a farm they owned, mortgage free, in East Wheatfield Township, Indiana County, PA.

In 1910 he and his wife and their three children lived on a farm they owned, with a mortgage, in the same township.

In 1920 he and Viola and their six children lived there. He also worked as a carpenter, building houses.

In 1930 he and his wife and four of their children lived on a farm they were renting for $15 a month on the Dilltown and Cramer Road in the same township. They did have a radio. He also worked as a laborer in a coal mine.

In 1940 he and Viola and their oldest and youngest children lived in a house they owned on Route 403 in the same township. Their home was valued at $1500. He worked as a repairman at a coal mine, Mildred as a public school teacher, and Robert as a truck driver. Their incomes for weeks worked in 1939 were $1024/33, $900/28, and $600/25, respectively.
