He married Lucinda Jacobs, a native of Robertson County, who was born on 26 September 1819. Mr. McFarlen was a blacksmith by trade. After living in Robertson County for a while, he moved to Gibson County, West Tennessee where he died on 20 April 1873. His wife died there on 26 September 1881."
