Dr. Cary was born in Brothertown, Wis., Oct. 21, 1857, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Amzi Cary. He conducted a specialist's practice in Chicago up to his retirement in 1921. He was graduated from Cornell University in 1881, and from Rush Medical College, Chicago, shortly afterward. He married Miss Harriet Heyl Aug. 13, 1885. In 1898, he and Mrs. Cary purchased the old Elmore place, located on the road leading to Glenbeulah. Here they planned and had their present modern home "Elmore" built. Each summer Dr. and Mrs. Cary entertained Chicago friends and relatives at their home. Dr. Cary and his two sons, Dr. Eugene of Chicago, and Louis H., of Greenbush, volunteered services in the World War, Dr. Cary becoming a major, and his son, Eugene, a captain in the aviation corps. Louis became ill in a southern camp and was returned home. Dr. Cary, as a specially invited guest, participated in the dedication of Cornell University's was memorial in May, 1931. On May 6 of that year the Chicago University obstetric hospital was dedicated, and a memorial pavilion, as part of the new hospital, was given to Dr. Cary by the patients and a portrait painted by Seiffert was installed in his honor. August 13, 1935, the Carys celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home here. The celebration was attended by their children, grandchildren and many friends.
