Salina "Ethel" Pendleton was born to Robert Henry Pendleton and Mary Jane Casto-Pendleton the second child of eight. Her father was a farmer.

1900 US Census Ethel is listed as age 6 and living with her parents and brother David Elva Pendleton on their farm in Aurora, Lawrence County, Missouri.

Apr 23, 1910 US Census listing Ethel at age 16 living with her parents and siblings in Independence, Pope County, Arkansas on their family farm of 55 acres. She is listed as a farm laborer on the family farm.

June 1910 Ethel and James Harrison McCuin son of James Carroll McCuin and Malissa F Tripp-McCuin marry in Nogo, Pope County, Arkansas. This union would bring forth three daughters who were all born in Nogo, Pope County, Arkansas:

June 5, 1917 WWI Draft Registration Card for James Harrison McCuin lists him as a farmer and his wife and two children living in Independence, Pope County, Arkansas.

1920 and 1930 US Census lists the family living in Independence, Pope County, Arkansas and farming.

February 8, 1937 Ethel's husband "Harrison" McCuin dies in Danville, Arkansas and is brought back to Independence Township what is known today as "Nogo", Pope County, Arkansas for burial.

1940 Ethel married Burton McKinley Clifton. "Burt" was the son of William Thomas Clifton and Ophella Josephine Ledbetter-Clifton from Missouri. Burt was born November 6, 1896 Carroll, Arkansas and died October 16, 1963 and is buried at the Exeter District Cemetery, Exeter, Tulare County, California.

Ethel and Burt lived in Exeter, California 1950's and 1960's 5 doors down the street from one of Ethel's niece, Juanita Fay Pendleton-Wolverton and Juanita's married family. Another niece of Ethel also lived in Exeter, Irelene May Pendleton-Ellison sister of Juanita.

Ethel also had her youngest brother Alfred, sister-in-law Ophia Rackley-Pendleton and their married family living in Exeter, California.

Ethel's daughters, son-in-laws and grandchildren all lived close to Ethel and Burt in and around the Exeter/Visalia City area of California, so visiting was an easy drive.

Burt Clifton died in 1963 and Ethel would live 10 more years surrounded by her loving family and died January 20, 1973.
