PROVIDENCE. April 19 - Elmer Smith, age 51, well known and respected farmer of the Providence community passed away at his home, Tuesday morning at six forty-five o'clock following an illness which had confined him to his bed for the past week. Funeral services will be held from the home Thursday morning at ten o'clock.
Mr. Smith was born on May 3, 1880, in Union township, the son of Thomas and Amanda Haymaker-Smith and throughout his life has always resided within this county. He was married to Miss Dora M. Egbert on February 6, 1901, and is now survived by the widow and one daughter, Mrs. Thelma Herring. Other members of the immediate family are two sisters, Mrs. Armanda Hamilton of Morgan county, Mrs. Eliza Pierce of Jennings county, and one brother Otis Smith of Union.
Throughout his life Mr. Smith had been known as a conscientious worker and a kindly neighbor. He had been in failing health for the past few years but never had ceased tending to his farm in which he took great pride until his illness forced him to bed about a week ago. He was a member of the Providence Christian church which he attended regularly and took an active part in the church work. Following the services which will be held at the home the burial will be made at the Simpson graveyard near Providence.
