Mr. Provost was born March 9, 1909, in Rayne, La. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1927 to 1948 and was decorated in World War II. He retired as a chief petty officer. He then worked 20 years at the Navy Reserve Training Station on Swan Island. In 1939, he married Geneva Jones; she died in 1981. In 1988, he married Penny Simpson.
Survivors include his wife; brother, Willie of Lake Charles, La.; sister, Leah Bourne of Iowa, La.; stepdaughters, Rita Price of Andover, Kan., and Janine DeBacker-Rivelli of Portland; stepsons, Frank DeBacker of Kansas City, Mo., Albert DeBacker and John DeBacker, both of Wichita, Kan., and Bud DeBacker of Sauvie Island; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Private interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. The family suggests remembrances to the Portland Police Sunshine Division or a charity of choice. Arrangements are by Hustad Funeral Home
