Quincy Daily Journal Mon, Sep 14, 1908 MATTHEW BRADY PASSES AWAY - An Old and Well Known Citizen of Honey Creek Died Saturday Night At --His Son's Home in Ursa--Leaves a Large Family.
Matthew Brady, one of the oldest and best known citizens of honey Creek township, passed away at the home of his son in Ursa Saturday night at half past eleven. Ten days ago he went to visit his son and was taken seriously ill and death came as a relief.
Mr. Brady was a native of Ireland, born Aug. 12, 1824, making him 84 years and one month old at the time of his death. He emigrated to America in 1847 and in 1859 came to honey Creek township and had resided there ever since.
He and his aged wife celebrated their golden wedding twelve years ago. He possessed all the attributes of a good Catholic, a loving, kind and affectionate father and leaves his aged wife and ten children, thirty grand children and eight great grandchildren.
The children are as follows: James, Edward and Matthew of honey Creek township; Philip of Ursa; Patrick of Riverside; Joseph of Denver, Colo.; Mrs. A. M. Shaffer of Ursa; Mrs. Mary Griffin of Bloomington; Mrs. Chas. Davis of Weiser, Idaho and Miss Lizzie.
The funeral will be tomorrow morning at 9 o'clock from St. Edward's church in Mendon. Interment will be in Bloomfield cemetery.

Quincy Daily Herald Tue, Sep 15, 1908 --HONEY CREEK PIONEER DEAD--Matthew Brady Laid to Rest in Bloomfield Cemetery This Morning.--...when a man of 23 he emigrated to America and settled in honey Creek township in 1859, or nearly a half century ago...Another son, John, met a tragic death in this city some four years ago, when he was murdered at Fourth and Broadway by Gates Seybold, who was afterwards found insane.
