Fred Bell Dies at 78

Of Injuries Suffered in Accident Apr. 23

FORT ATKINSON - Fred L. Bell, 78, of 91, Jackson Stret died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in University Hospital, Madison, of injuries suffered in an accident April 23 at the intersection of highway 12 and the Hackbarth Road, one mile south of Fort Atkinson.
The car in which he was a passenger left the roadway and hit a tree. Leon Chaffe, 78, Fort Atkinson, the driver, suffered right hand and left arm cuts and skinned knees.
The death of Bell brings the road toll of Jefferson County to seven since Jan. 1.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, the Rev. Donald Bitter will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Helenvillle.
Friends may pay their respects at teh Nitardy Doersching Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. and at teh chruch on Satruday starting at 1 p.m.
Bell was born Aug. 31, 1892 in Oxford, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Bell. A painting contractor, he had lived in Fort Atkinson for the past 55 years.
He was married to Freda Roth Feb. 22, 1931.
He was a member of St. Paul's Church, the Paul Frank Florin Post No. 166, American Legion, and World War I Barracks No. 1090.
Surviving are his wife; one sister, Mrs. Clara Pessly, Packwaukee; two brothers, Otto, Westfield, and Charles, Beloit. Seven brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
