Mrs. Caroline Bayer Passes At Age of 77

Mrs. Caroline Bayer passed away at the Frerichs nursing home in Galva on Mother's Day, May 13, after an illness of more than two years' duration. She was 77 years of age. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Bullock funeral home and interment was in the Streitmatter cemetery.
Mrs. Bayer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Schwab, was born on Feb. 16, 1868 in Reisuch, Germany. She came to the United States in 1895 at the age of 27 and was married to Charles Bayer in 1896. To this union were born four children—two daughters, Elsie, now, Mrs. Fred Reikert of Speer, and Lena, now Mrs. Frank Streitmatter of Wyoming, and two sons, Paul of the Duncan community and August, who passed away October 9, 1926.
Mr. and Mrs. Bayer lived on a farm in Peoria county for a number of years then moved to Peoria and spent a few years there. They later went back to farming two miles west of Speer. After Mr. Bayer passed away on April 5, 1914, Mrs. Bayer continued farming until 1928. After that time she made her home with her children. She was a kind and loving mother and endeared herself to many, many friends and neighbors.
