Joan Ward Stokes, wife of Frank Malcolm (Mack) Stokes, died October 6, 2007 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born October 27, 1935 in Florence, SC, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm Booth and Ruth Lamotte Ward.

Joan was a lifelong resident of Darlington, SC and had recently moved to Woodruff, SC. She was retired from Nucor Steel in Darlington. Joan was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband of 54 years are two sons, Michael Stokes and his wife Norma Lynn of Woodruff, SC and Danny Stokes and his wife Debbie of Darlington, SC.; six grandchildren, Michelle, Jared, Joshua, Jessica, Brandon, and Elizabeth and six great grandchildren Cameron, Robert Bruce, Haley, Kadence, Bridget, and Jacob. Also surviving her is her brother Malcolm Bennie Ward and his wife Carol of Sylvania Ohio and nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home at 11:00am on Tuesday, October 9, with burial following in Grove Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday night at Belk Funeral Home.
