George Washington Spaulding was the son of Silas Spaulding and Betsey Hill. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Spaulding and Sarah Woods.

Samuel Spaulding was one of the first settlers of Merrimack, New Hampshire. He owned a large tract of land. Samuel came from Chelmsford, Massachusetts. He died in Merrimack on 11 September 1797.

Samuel was a lieutenant in the Revolutionary War and was in the Battle of White Plains on 28 October 1776. He was discharged in December of the same year.

George Washington Spaulding married Frances Snow on 10 March 1830. George lived in Provincetown, Massachusetts, Baltimore, Maryland and St. Thomas in the West Indies. He was a ship master, merchant and then farmed in Appleton.

In 1880 George and Frances were living in Appleton. Living with them were their grandchildren, Georgie S. Shaylor age 12 and Jerome Shaylor age 9.

The children of George Washington Spaulding and Frances Snow were:
1. Stephen Spaulding (1840-1842)
2. Frances Ellen Spaulding married Egbert Jerome Shaylor and resided in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
3. Cornelia Spaulding married Peter Eugene Dane. Their child was Georgianna Spalding Dane.
