OBITUARY :
ELMER SPENCER BAILEY, 89, formerly of 105 Sunflower Drive, Hagerstown, and a resident of Clearview Nursing Home, died at the nursing home on Monday, August 29, 2005.

Born January 10, 1916 in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Robert Alburtus and Sarah Thresa Finck Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Chessie Aldine Bailey on June 17, 2001.

He served in the U. S. Army.

He was employed with the Western Maryland Railway for forty years, and was a Road Conductor.

He was a member of the Evangel Baptist Church.

He was a life member of the United Transportation Union.

He is survived by one son, Larry Spencer Bailey and fiance Patsy Musser of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Lana Eileen Pittenger and husband Fred of Sharpsburg, Maryland; four grandchildren, Kimberly Mills, and husband, William, of Smithsburg, Maryland, Kelli Byers, and husband, Michael, of Williamsport, Maryland, Kristin Hines of Hagerstown, and Matthew Hines, and wife, Jennifer, of Hagerstown; eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Kathleen Davis, Virginia Smith, Margaret Foltz, Hilda Hoffman, and Bertha Wolfe; and three brothers, Alburtus Bailey, Paul Bailey, and George Bailey.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the The Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Boulevard. Rev. Ronald K. Faith will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
