Born 1 November 1877 in Kansas to Henry Hermann and Viola Morgan. Some times she also went by Morgan and sometimes by Gates or Crow.

The 1880 U.S. Census for Canville, Neosho, Kansas she is listed as May Hermann age 2 in the home of her parents Henry Hermann and Viola.

The State Census on March 1, 1885 for Canville, Neosho, Kansas shows May as 7 years old in the household of Godfrey Gates age 49 and Viola Gates his wife age 29.

When she was 22 she was married to William Ludwell Crow who was 26 at the time. They married in Neosho County on the 8th of September 1899. They are shown on the 11th of June, 1900 U.S. Census as living on Floral Avenue in the Eden Clark addition in Chanute, Neosho County Kansas.

Their son, Leslie Lawrence Crow was born 22 September 1900 in Chanute, Neosho County, Kansas.

She died in 1902 leaving her husband with their young son. Her mother, Viola and step-father ,Godfrey Gates took over the care of Leslie and raised him there in Kansas. Her husband left to work for the railroad and lived in California for most of the rest of his life.
