Henry Columbus Shaw died at the Passavant Hospital, Pittsburgh, Friday September 23, 1910, where he had been taken on Wednesday morning with the hope of an operation for internal injuries, received a week previous when he was crushed by a fall of slate and dirt, would prolong his life.

Mr. Shaw was born September 22, 1852, in Barton, Maryland, therefore being 58 years of age. He was the son of George W. and the late Harriet Potter Shaw. For the past twenty years he had been one of the foremost business men of this place, being a merchant, coal operator and a farmer. Mr. Shaw was probably the largest owner of real estate in this end of the county.

In March 1893, he was married to Lydia the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Meager of this place. Besides his wife, he is survived by four children, three daughters and one son, also by his aged father of near Grantsville and the following brothers and sisters; Joseph, of Elk Lick township; Dr. William P. of Berlin; Fannie, of Salisbury; Gurney, Tibbie, and Lulu who live at the homestead.

The funeral services were held at the home of the deceased on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W.W. Wagner of the M.E. church assisted by Rev. Ira S. Mon of the Reformed Church with interment in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
