Johnny E. Croom, 78, a lifelong resident of Animas passed away Thursday November 17, 2011 at his home. Johnny was born August 7, 1933 in Paul's Valley, Oklahoma to Frank and Gladys Croom. Johnny served his country honorably in the United States Army and throughout the years he had worked for Southern Pacific Railroad, Phelps Dodge Mining Company and has been a lifelong rancher in the Animas Valley.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Rena Croom of the home, daughter, Cathy Taylor of Animas; brother, Joe D. Croom and his wife, Laura Faye of Virden; two grandchildren, Tommie Ruebush and her husband, Clint, and Michelle Taylor; two great-grandchildren, Johnny Parke and Levi Ruebush. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother, Tommy Croom. A graveside service will be Tuesday November 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Middle Animas Cemetery with Wayne Fralie officiating. Pallbearers will be Clint Ruebush, Danny and Ernie Fralie, Weldon Smith, Alan Donnel, Kevin McCarty, Perry Croom and Wade McClain. Honorary bearers will be Clinton Dunagan and David Dunagan.
