Born in Taben, Trier District, Rhine Province, Kingdom of Prussia (now Taben-Rodt, State of Rhineland-Palatinate, Federal Republic of Germany). Emigrated to the United States with her husband Johann Gansemer and their three daughters and one son, departing the port of Le Havre, France, and arriving at the port of New York (Castle Garden) on December 29, 1862 aboard the ship Admiral. Proceeded to Dubuque County, Iowa, where the couple acquired a farm of 104 acres one mile northeast of Sherrill, in Peru Township. Preceded in death by her husband in 1874 but remained on the farm with her daughter Katherine and son-in-law Michael Leineweber. Died on the farm on Christmas Day, 1904.

Obituary published in the Dubuque (Iowa) Telegraph-Herald, December 26, 1904, page 3:

Mrs. Catherine Gansener [sic] died Sunday, Dec. 25, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Catherine Limeweber [sic] of Sherrill. The deceased was 80 years old and was born in Germany in 1824 and came to Dubuque county in 1862 with her husband, who died in 1874. She is survived by three daughters, -- Mrs. Peter Naumann, Sister Benevenuta of the St. Rose convent of La Crosse and Mrs. Catherine Limeweber [sic] of this place. The funeral will take place on Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock, when she will be buried at the St. Peter and Paul's cemetery at Sherrill.
