Nellie Beukelman was born to Arie and Jessie (Plooster) Beukelman on November 5, 1915 in Douglas County [South Dakota]. She graduated from Harrison [S.D.] Grade School. She married Mathew Bultsma on December 20, 1934 and they farmed south of Platte [S.D.] for 31 years. They raise 4 children together. She was a member of the [Platte] First Reformed Church, was involved in Ladies Circle, and taught Sunday School. Upon moving to Platte in 1965, she worked in the Platte Hospital for 15 years as a housekeeper. She enjoyed making quilts and reading. She became a resident of the Corsica [S.D.] Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in 1993. She died there on February 22, 2000. She is survived by two sons: Arlin (Dutch) and wife Marie of Nashville, Tennessee and Paul and wife Susan of Bismarck, North Dakota; one daughter: Rena Lunders and husband Bill of St. Joseph, Missouri; one daughter-in-law: Leanne Bultsma of Platte, South Dakota; three sisters: Gertie Manning and Susie Manning of Corsica, South Dakota, and Esther Vander Woude and husband George of Wayland, Michigan; fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Matt; her son, Edwin, and her stepsister, Grace Van Dam.
