Susie Menning, 91, died at Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour SD, on Monday, March 23, 2009. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 25, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Reformed Church in Corsica, SD with burial following in Graceland Cemetery in Corsica. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 25, 2009 from 6-8 PM at Koehn Bros. Funeral Chapel in Corsica with a prayer service at 7;00 PM.
Susie Menning was born on Dec. 23, 1917 to Arie and Jessie (Plooster) Beukelman in Harrison, SD. She attended school in Harrison. She married William "Bill" Menning on November, 19, 1936 in Corsica, SD. They farmed near Corsica until retiring in 1976, when they moved into Corsica. Susie worked at the Corsica Public School in the lunch room for several years. Bill died on July 8, 1997. She moved to Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in Corsica in 2004. Susie was a faithful member of the Grace Reformed Church in Corsica and was active in the Mission Society of the church. She enjoyed music, playing piano by ear, singing hymns, was a seamstress, quilt maker and embroider. She died on March 23, 2009 at the Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Armour, SD at the age of 91.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Gloria Beukelman of Corsica, SD and Judy Kaufmann and husband, Steve of Sioux Falls, SD, son-in-law Calvin Klien of Souix Falls, SD, brother-in-law, George VanderWoude, 8 grandchildren, 19 great- grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bill, daughter, Joyce Klien, son-in-law, Bruce Beukelman, 3 sisters, Gertie Menning, Nellie Bultsma, and Esther VanderWoude, and an infant granddaughter, Rebecca Kaufmann.
