"Chadwick And Baird Burn In Plane Which Crashed Near Russell's Field Thursday" Cub Believed To Be In Trouble Over LaFollette, Plane Plows Hole In Earth.

A small Cub airplane became a funeral pyre for two Jacksboro men Thursday afternoon and their burned, seared bodies were taken from the plane after it had crashed near the Hubert Russell farm east of Jacksboro about 6:30. In the plane as it burned and hurtled to earth were Elmer Chadwick, who owned the Piper Cub and was in the pilot's seat, and Don Baird. Chadwick was the son of Pete Chadwick and Baird was the son of Mrs. Winston Baird. The plane had been up part of the afternoon and citizens on Rose Hill near the water tank have said they noticed that it was in trouble while going towards Jacksboro from that point. Some reports said the plane burned after it struck the ground. Others say the men were burned while it was in the air. The body of Chadwick was jammed into the cowl, the engine was some feet from the burned plane. The body of Baird was sitting upright in the rear seat. The cause of the accident was not known early this morning.

From the LaFollette Press, Thursday, August 10, 1950:
