Dec. 3, 1856 Wed. - Raftsman's Journal (Clearfield, Pa.)
Horses Stolen. - We see by the Banner that two fine horses, belonging to David Maclay, Esq, of Piney township, Clarion county, were stolen from the field, on the night of the 24th Nov. Mr. M. was away from home. Nothing has yet been heard of the horses.
Republican Gazette - Clarion Co., PA - Nov. 10, 1892 - A dispatch was received here on Tuesday morning by the family of Mr. H.V. Curll, that Hon. David Maclay, father of Mrs. Curll had died the night previous at his home in Missoula, Mont. from a complication of diseases and that the funeral would be held on Wednesday at that place. He was about 72 years of age. Hon. David Maclay had been a resident of this county about 50 years, having moved here from Mifflin county in or about the year 1843, settling on a farm in Piney township, where he resided up to the time of his removal west, a little over one year ago. Socially, Mr. Maclay was a genial, clever gentleman, and his kindly disposition made him the friend of everybody. In politics, he was a life-long Republican, and from 1873 to 1875 represented the part in the State Senate, and at other different times held minor offices in the gift of the people of the township in which he lived. In the advancement of the general business interests of the county he took particular pride and was an active participant in the effort made in the early days to move the county seat to Sligo. In the State in which he had lately cast his lot he was following his occupation of farming but found sufficient time, in the energy and activity of his spirit, to assist the newly organized officials with many valuable suggestion and actions and in his death he will be sadly missed and mourned. A kind father, a loving husband and a genial friend to everybody, his death is an irreparable loss.
