William F. DeVore, a long time resident of Cumberland, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Hosfelt, near Massena Thursday, June 9, 1960 following several months of illness.

William Franklin DeVore, son of Watt and Matilda Cline DeVore, was born in Victoria township, July 16, 1885 and passed away at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 23 days.

He grew to manhood in the Victoria community. He was a member of the Methodist church in Victoria. On February 27, 1907 he was married to Millie Mae Powell at the home of her parents near Mt. Etna. They lived on a farm near Massena until moving to Cumberland in 1935. Mrs. DeVore passed away in 1952. To this union seven children were born, Mildred Bright of Clarion, Velma Hosfelt, Alice Murray, and Harry of Massena, Ronald of Denver Colorado, and Earl and Roy of Cumberland.

Besides his wife he preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Caroline, and an infant brother.

Surviving are his children, fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Merle Parkinson of Atlantic and Mrs. Chester Thompson of Mt. Etna, two brothers, Guy of Nashua and Harrison of Carl and many other relatives and friends.

Mr. DeVore was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Cumberland and for many years enjoyed membership in the Cumberland Saddle Club.

Services were held Saturday, June 11 at the First Methodist Church in Cumberland with Rev. Fred Trimble and Rev. C. A. Crouse of Massena officiating. Music was by Mrs. Martin Mills and Mrs. T. L. Bond. Flower bearers were Mr. and Mrs. Russell Symonds and Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Groves. Pallbearers were Delmar Cline, Wilbur Cline and Norman Cline of Corning, Warnie Conner and Ralph Lewis of Cumberland, and J. D. Platt of Massena. Interment was in Victoria cemetery.
