Emily M. Martin was born to August Carl Martin and Bertha Marie (Sabrowski) in a small cabin at a place called Olando about 30 miles north of Terry, Montana. She attended Pleasant View School. They used to heat bricks up and put them in the wagon on the way to school when it was cold. Her father had homesteaded there May 1913 after moving there from Rib Lake, Wisconsin. Her grandparents the Sabrowski's lived close by. The Martins were known to have picnics at Sheep Mountain. She stayed for awhile in Harlowton, Montana. Then she worked for Boeing's during World War II. Her sister Berniece was known to be there at the time. I believe she stayed with our Uncle Herb at the time. She was also a licensed Beautician for many years. She Married Earl Carpenter in 1947. She was a housewife for many years. Emily and her husband Earl came to Spokane about 1970. Earl passed away in 1979. She worked for Good Samaritan Nursing home until her retirement. She resided at Spokane until her death in Feb, 2010. She had 9 brothers and sisters. They were Herb, Arnold, Alfred, Alvinia, Arthur, Edith, Mildred, Rose, and Berniece. Emily and Earl Carpenter had 3 sons. David, Mike, and Dennis who reside currently in Spokane, Washington. Dennis and Mike both passed away during the summer of 2017.
