From the Rolla Weekly Herald dated 21 Jul 1870:
"Sudden Death- Last Tuesday, a German named Peter Anton Elbert, living on Mr Herman's farm, about three miles from Rolla, came to town for the purpose of buying cattle from Julius Pezold, and while bargaining for them, suddenly fell backwards, and died in a few minutes. He was aged about sixty years. Coroner Stillman Ruggles summoned a jury, who decided that the deceased man came to his death by apoplexy."

Peter arrived in America on the Bark Johanna on May 16, 1866. He traveled with his sons Johann & Franz Elbert from his first marriage, his second wife Margarethe Fischer Elbert, her mother Barbara Fischer, her brother Jacob Fischer, and his baby son Emmerich Elbert.
