Mrs. Overfield Dies on Tuesday; Funeral Friday (Florence Edna Miller Pierce Overfield)

Florence Overfield, 76, wife of Chester Overfield, died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita where she had been admitted earlier in the day.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Potts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Deever pastor of the Grace Memorial United Methodist Church of Independence officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Funeral Home.

Florence Overfield was born Sept. 19, 1895 at Great Bend, the daughter of Michael Grier Miller and Minnie E. (Millard) Miller. She attended school at the Four Mile school in Cher-okee County, Kan. at Longton High School in Longton.
She was united in marriage to D.W. Pierce at Longton on November 14, 1916 and he proceeded her in death in June of 1935. One daughter was born to this union.

On Aug. 18, 1937 at Independence, she was united in marriage to Chester Overfield who survives at the home on Route 4.

She was a member of the Sycamore United Methodist Church, the Radical Grange and the E.H.U.

Survivors in addition to the husband, Chester of the home, include one daughter, Mrs. Neil (Annabelle) Proctor of Hutchinson, one granddaughter, Janet; three sisters, Eunice Miller and Helen Miller both of St. Petersburg, Florida and Mrs. Emory (Grace) Jackson of Independence; two brothers, Frank Miller of Cherryville, and Clayton Miller of Conway Springs. Also surving are four step-children: Floyd of Tulsa, Earl of Okay, Okla., Grace, Neosho, Mo. and Pearl Mt. Clemens, Mich.

Casketbearers will be W.F. Etter, Lee Heape, Clayton Tucker, Adolph Wildgrube, John Barnhill, and Laurence Turner. Preceding Mrs. Overfield in death were her parents two brothers and two half brothers.
