Waverly, Feb. 27 - Lester Davenport, 57, of Waverly, died at 3:10 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial hospital following an illness of three months.
Mr. Davenport, a Waverly rural route mail carrier for 35 years, was well known in Knights of Pythias circles, having held many offices in the Waverly and state lodges.
Born Nov. 24, 1899, at Modesto, the son of Jesse and Mae Coons Davenport. He was married to Lucille Agnew on Nov. 27, 1920. She survives.
Additional survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Donna Mitchell, Springfield; three sisters, Miss Lucille Davenport and Mrs. Ruth Noble, both of Waverly and Mrs. Dorothy Martin, Owenton, Ky.; one brother, John Davenport, Garden Grove, Calif.
He was a member of the Waverly Methodist church and served as treasurer of the Waverly unit school board.
Remains were taken to the Neece Funeral Home, Waverly where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Rev. Ralph Fitch and Rev. Robert Kater officiating. The Knights of Pythias will conduct services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Waverly East cemetery.
