"Mathew Files, father of Dr. Chas. A. and Joseph Files, died at the home of his son, Joseph, on George street, shortly after eleven o'clock last evening. The cause of his death was bowel trouble and the infirmaries incident to old age. No funeral arrangements have as yet been made."

"The funeral of Matthew Files, the highly respected citizen, who died Tuesday night, at the home of his son, Joseph Files, will be held at the home of his son Joseph, on George street, Friday afternoon, at two o'clock. Burial will be made at Woodland cemetery."

"....Mr. Files was born in Ross county, Ohio, June 25, 1825, and in childhood moved, with his parents, to Greene county, where he lived until 1846. In that year he went to Carroll county, Indiana, and engaged in the ferry business on the Wabash and Tippecanoe rivers for a period of three years. He then removed to this county and engaged in farming, in Ridge and Union townships. In 1853 he was married to Amarilla Snodgrass, whose death occurred a few years ago. His direct survivors are two sons, Dr. Charles A. Files and Joseph Files."
