Gary grew up in Locust Grove, graduating Locust Grove High School in 1961. He was a gifted football player and was given a full ride scholarship to play football at the University of Arkansas. Gary also served his country as a part of the National Guard.
He was known to many as "Ooch". He was involved with and an avid supporter of the Locust Grove Round-up Club. Ooch donated to and supported many kids in the community with their extracurricular activities. He helped to coach little league football and had played in alumni games.
Ooch worked at McDonnell-Douglas for over 27 years. When McDonnell-Douglas closed, he was given the opportunity to go back to college. For several semesters, Ooch attended Tulsa Junior College where he made the President's Honor Roll. He loved to take care of his horses and enjoyed time spent going to estate sales and auctions. Ooch treasured his granddaughters and was proud to buy them many different musical instruments. He will be missed dearly by all those that knew him.
Ooch is survived by: 1 son: Johnathan Campbell and wife Jennipher of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; 2 granddaughters: Isabel and Kate; 1 sister: Carol Holman and husband Johnny of Locust Grove, Oklahoma; 3 nephews: John Eric Holman of Locust Grove, Oklahoma, Brannon Holman and wife Tanya of Peggs, Oklahoma, and Derrick Holman and Stephanie of Irvine, California; Numerous other relatives and a community full of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held 11:00 A.M., Thursday, February 2, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. Reverend Doug Parker and Reverend Rick Condit officiated. Interment followed at Hogan Cemetery in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. Services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.
