Captain, Co C 96th Regiment Ohio Infantry

Husband of Savilla Binkley. They married on May 23, 1848. Capt. Reichelderfer died on Christmas day, 1898. Levi and Savilla are reported to have had eight children (at least five of them before he left for the Civil War - see census below). [Obit of Wife in Western Christian Advocate May 19th 1909] Levi is buried with his wife in Lima Ohio.

Levi Reichelderfer served his country in two wars. First with Company E, Fourth Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry in the war with Mexico from May 15, 1847 to July 20, 1848. And then again in the Civil War where he was commissioned (July 23, 1862) as captain [Company Commander]of Company C, in the 96th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He resigned on March 26, 1863 (Disability). He led his company in two terrible battles, Chickasaw Bayou and Arkansas Post, before he had to resign due to disability.

Levi farmed in his early life but became a lumber dealer and merchant after the civil war. His parents are reported to have been John Christian Reichelderfer b: 15 OCT 1782 in Albany Twp., Berks Co., PA Rebecca Boucher b: 1789 in Berks Co., PA [From an undocumented family history]
