ALBERT BEDELL

Albert Bedell, for forty-five years a resident of Larned, died in this city Friday morning, Feb. 18th, from heart complications following an acute illness of a few hours. He had been down town the afternoon before, and that night was taken with the attack which resulted in his death ten hours later.

The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, and were attended by a very large number of those who came to pay their last respects to a beloved friend and neighbor. The G.A.R. and the Masons attended in a body, and the Masonic service was used, assisted by Dr. C. L. Shelby. A quartet composed of Dr. Wheeler, Dr. Shinneman, W.H. Vernon Jr. and H. M. Reed sang during the services. Interment was in the Larned cemetery.

Albert Bedell was born in Muskingum county, Ohio, January 17, 1845, and was aged 76 years, 1 month and 1 day at the time of his death. He was married to Esther A. Deaton at Jacksonville, Ill., December 15, 1875. To this union four children were born, one dying in infancy. Three survive, Mrs. Ella Reece of Larned, Leonard and William Bedell. Mrs. Bedell died about thirty years ago.

He was a member f B. F. Larned Post, G.A.R., of which he was past commander, and a member of Larned Lodge No. 167, A.F. & A. M. He was very active in the Masonic lodge and gave much of his time to the interests of the lodge.

Mr. Bedell was a veteran of the Civil War, having served the entire period of the war. He enlisted for three years from Muskingum county, Ohio, December 21, 1861, as a private in Co. F, 78th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and was with his regiment in the campaigns at Ft. Donelson, Shiloh, Bolivar and Vicksburg. On January 3, 1864, the regiment re-enlisted as a volunteer regiment, and after a short furlough home, joined in the Atlanta campaign, later marching with Sherman to the sea, and up through the Carolinas. Mr. Bedell was mustered out of the service at the close of the war.

The family came to Larned in October, 1876, and this had been their home since. For years Mr. Bedell was employed in the Keystone Mill, and later was associated with Mr. Halloway in the real estate business.

Albert Bedell was a genial, kindly man, and always had a pleasant word for everyone. He was universally liked. He loved children. and no one had more friends among the little folks and young people than he, and he will be greatly missed by them, as well as by the whole community.

Besides his three children, he is survived by two brothers, one living in Ohio and the other in Texas.
