Marie Magdalena Wendling was born to Francois and Marie M. Suhr Wendling in Grussenheim, Alsace, France. She was the eldest of eight children.
She married A. Sebastian Strauel on Sept. 16, 1841. She immigrated in October 1853, landing in New York. Eight children were born to this union. She and her husband were gardeners and operated small flower business. Magdalena was 75 when she died. She is buried with her husband at St Joseph's cemetery. in West Peoria, Il.
